This is me, all three sides of me (cinema critic, trash loving manchild, serious godzilla fan), watching ShinG:

Holy shit  if it brings you that much joy it's got to be worth something.

What about LegendaryG? Where do you stand on that one?

What about LegendaryG?

If I could travel in time I'd go to the point right after KotM teaser trailer got released, tell myself not to get hyped and avoid watching it on a big screen.

Same here  but boy people love it! I look forward to GvK tho, but I'm glad the rights are going back to Toho afterwards.

Also have no idea why people gave 2014 such a hard time back then, I think it's a better movie than 2019, and for what it was, more in line with the ideal of Godzilla than 2019, 2019 is Pacific Rim 2-tier but instead of Boyega we got the Stranger Things girl, who knows who's more unlikable.

I hated '14 G at the time. Much preferred KOTM.

I liked both Godzilla ‘14 and ‘19.....they really surprised me since I thought American film makers didn’t know how to design or make a Godzilla film

I loved the design of the Legendary G, I just thought the movie was awful when he wasn't in it. I've seen most of Shin and thought it was alright, but I just can't get over how from the front it just looks like a crusty bloody turd shaped into a cock.

They don't. LOL
Yep, it makes me remember that "soul vs soulless" meme. American Godzilla movies are ok Kaiju movies, but they're not good Godzilla movies.

At first I liked it a lot, but I don't anymore, I heard they based it on a bald eagle? It just doesn't look like Godzilla to me anymore.

Shin's design is perfection to me, it's literally the 54 design modernized in all the right features imo, I love the keloid scar look and the fact that the head pretty much looks like a mushroom cloud which is pretty much the entire point of Godzilla.

For a second there I liked 84's design but I kinda don't anymore, but I do love 94 and 95 designs. The millennium designs and GMK are eeh to me.

All Godzilla movies are bad when Godzilla isn’t on screen
As a recent "fan" I came across this conclusion early on, with a few exceptions, they're bad movies, and I'm coming across a similar situation while rediscovering Ultraman, it's almost unbearable to watch, even as background noise, it's only fun once the Tokusatsu parts starts and it only lasts like 2 minutes lmao

My only real issue with Legendary G is that it's too human. There needs to be a happy medium between classic and that. I did however warm up more to Shin as time went on though. Even with the phallic shape, I did come to like the theme they went with the zombie like look and that it constantly evolved to meet it's defensive and offensive needs. And that he was nothing more than a giant reactor. I know G has always been nuclear, that's a given. But is that the first time he actually needed to return to the ocean to cool himself?

Well he was burning in Godzilla vs Destoroyah and he went back to the ocean a lot, but I don't think it was explicitly to cool off, I think Shin is the first time they implemented it with that purpose.

Shin Godzilla feels to me like a love letter to Godzilla, it has every aspect of almost all iterations of Godzilla, but refined and with a purpose, not just because it's cool.

As for Legendary G, design is only the surface, I think there are reasons why Godzilla is intrinsically Japanese, and doesn't work in American works. America is the villain in the DNA of the concept of Godzilla, it's the fear of the bomb to the Japanese. How then can America make a Godzilla movie? They can only do it by removing everything Godzilla stands for, hence; Legendary G.

Dr Sleep 8/10 - Very good, a little rushed in places and the ending wasn't as strong as I'd hoped.

The Mummy (2017) - 5/10

Second time I've watched it however the first time it was on in the background so wasn't paying full attention to it.

Cruise does an OK job and I liked Sofia Boutella as the Mummy.

It looks good however it all feels a bit thrown together. Knowing that the Dark Universe was cancelled, watching it in the present day makes all the exposition and universe set-up completely void.

@ApeManRyan What did you think?

One of the worst movies from the Universal Monsters series. I really hated it. I've watched it 3 times and still cannot enjoy it fully. It isnt as bad as my first time watch but I still cannot get into the movie. I love Cruise but he was horrible in the movie with everyone else being either super boring or like the best friend being super comedic which never worked and just a rip off of American Werewolf. Crowe was okay but just wasted. The only good part was Sofia as the Mummy. She was cool. Movie is a lackluster bomb and no wonder the dark universe got cancelled.
