Predator - 9.5/10

A nearly flawless film, but the attack on the guerillas is so 80s and ridiculious. It takes me out of the perfect flow up to that point, but quickly is corrected the rest of the film. McTiernan's second unit directed that scene.

Jaws - 10/10

What can I say, a perfect film. It's a crime Shaw wasn't even nominated for an Oscar. I cannot believe he did that drunk as well as seasick, and acted circles around the entire cast.

Shazam! - 5/10

Everything outside of Zachary Levi was boring. He was great and a spitting image of Captain Marvel. I like how they made him a punk at times.

The Seven Deadly Sins were cool at first, but they use them way too much - to the point where they’re just generic putties for Shazam to fight.

Doctor Sivana was meh.

Will get Hat Tuys doll!

I remember catching it on TV a few times and blew it off, and my Wife was watching the whole series (including the trash fire of the Heretic) and I watched E3 and found it quite good. It deserves more credit for trying something new and original while doing a good job of it.

Finally saw Bumblebee tonight with my family.

7/10

I thought it was fun. Not great, but everyone enjoyed it so that is a win in my book.

Why couldn't they make the transformers look like that in all the previous movies?

I haven't seen those movies since the third one, but from what I saw in the trailers they looked fantastic in that one. I HAAAATED the talking junkyards of the old series. I remember when I saw the first in the theater and Prime and Megatron are rolling down the street and I couldn't tell who was who.

Prime is making G1 statues from the Bumblebee film, and I can’t wait to see them. They’re exactly what we should have had all along for the live action films. I wouldn’t have even minded the shit stories and writing if they’d looked right instead of the Bayformer piles of scrap rolling around.

While watching I knew there was something off about it... Then I checked wiki and sure, they redid a big chunk of it because Jason Miller became avalable, plus cut important character development scenes in the begining for theatrical. Now, to be fair, I then watched recently found footage of original Miller-less scenes and they are actually inferior - Dourif's acting is weaker, set design and camera work are worse. And yet, what they've cut completely would've made the movie much more understandable and watchable.

Still, I don't know if I'd rate it higher... I expected substence from such a movie, so when it ended I felt like time was wasted on empty thrills.

Jason Goes to Hell—2.5/4 stars

Had some interesting ideas and a crazy, secret crossover (and no, I’m not talking about Freddy’s hand popping up)*. But it fell flat a little. Not as lame as Part 8, and not as abhorrent as Part 5.

However . . .

Jason X—0/4 stars

I didn’t heed the warnings. This is my least favorite of the F13 films.

The budget makes it look like a SyFy Original Movie or a direct-to-video film, but no, this was made for and released in actual theaters. Not even Harry Manfredini’s music could enhance this cheesy nightmare. It felt like even he didn’t care. It hurts me to say this, as a person who has a positive look towards film, that this is one of the few movies I can’t imagine sitting through again. It’s only redemption is that it has a few so-bad-it’s-good moments and the design of Uber Jason—which is a strange balance of silliness and coolness, made convincing only by Kane Hodder’s performance.

*Jason is a deadite, maybe?

Glass - 8 out of 10

I really enjoyed the film. I can’t say I’m a fan of a certain way the movie ends, but meh. If it’s the end of Shamalamadingdong’s superhero dabbling, it was a fitting end, I guess.

While I doubt it'll generate any 1/6 figures any time soon, my wife and I just finished Crazy Rich Asians. It was actually pretty good.

The memories of it get worse over time. I was kinda meh about it at first but I really hate it now. I wish Split was just a one off.

It definitely wasn’t as good as Unbreakable or Split, but the thing that hurt the film was the thing that tied into the ending—the reason for it being too slow paced for most of the film.

Plus the fact that if they wanted to continue the thread they’ve sewn... well, it’d be difficult to do that now?

Aquaman - 6/10

I finally watched this over the weekend. It's ok. There were some pretty cool moments in it, but it felt like it couldn't decide what kind of movie it wanted to be. It's a mix of superhero flick, romantic comedy with some slapstick, horror, and underwater Avatar with a fucking kaiju thrown in because reasons. I like Momoa, but he really should have been Lobo instead of Aquaman. Black Manta was cool for the three minutes he was on screen. Mera was hot, but Heard is a horrible actress so her scenes are best watched on mute. Ocean Master was a villain caricature that was utterly forgettable--though it was cool seeing him finally have the Ocean Master helmet on at the end.
